Daniel Libeskind's 17 words of architectural inspiration

Daniel Libeskind is an architect who was inspired by everything around him. Architecture is an inspiration and wonder, it is not a concrete or any other building materials. Architecture is a story that inspires everyone who can see the beauty of it. He has 17 words of architectural inspiration and they are namely, communicative, optimism, hand, inexplicable, expressive, space, real, democratic, pointed, emotional, complex, political, radical, unexpected, risky, memorable and raw. To summarize these seventeen inspirations, let’s just talk where it did come from. Daniel Libeskind is an architect who normally work outside an office and talk to his client personally. Through this process of his work, he can personally every single idea that need suppose to know in his client. By his own style of communicating to his client, the 17 words of architectural inspiration can now be seen. By just looking to the eyes of his client, these inspirations will just come out and be a wonder of architecture.

As he collects the idea of his client, he form structure by using every single idea he gets.

Before we go further, I have to say that I agree with his statement that architecture came from emotion because it is somehow the same with my manifesto of architecture. We have the same explanation why architecture was built by emotions. Emotions are deep feelings of your client that are hidden physically but mentally it is not.

We can say that emotions are too sad to be a wonder but there are architect in this world that can transform every single emotion into a beauty and design. The architect can get an idea through that emotion by having a design that will hold the emotion of your own client.

I also have to agree that architecture is a language. Architecture is a language of voice and not a word that is written because your structure will speak for you. Your design will show your client the process on how you come up with it. The language that you put on it and also the language that just got out on your mouth. Your structure will speak loud and clear to the audience that will see your design. It will automatically and emotionally speak for you, on how you came up with every single idea and what are the experiences that you face on just to come up with that design yours.

Compact House - v.1

I come up with the concept origami because I know that the shape of it can take the level of modern architecture now a day. And I was given a chance to design a compact house that’s why in a simple scaled model; I want to show an origami style on my structure.

Origami is consist of different kinds of paper folding that forms a sculpture and it's the same with architecture that was visualized in a different kind of formation.

I want to make a paper formation a structure that has the futuristic design of a structure.

Design:

The purpose of the glass wall is for the owner to see what is happening around his/her house, like a bird who can see everything while flying.

The tail of a bird in my structure will represent as a garage because a long feather of a bird can give you a protection in any weather climate.

I am choosing the origami of a bird because I want my client to feel that his or her house is in the top of the world and he or she can do everything that he or she wants, while flying and the term flying means relaxation. I will give my client a relaxation by transforming the structure into a bird the flies up above the sky with an open place and closed from problems.

Let’s elaborate.

The client will feel that the house is at the top of the world by it unique design. The house is the palace of all designs.

Flying means relaxation because you are floating in a space that no one can reach you or even disturb you.

Feel like a bird finding for an adventure.

And that’s how my compact house will be look like, a house that no one can change or defeat on.

My Manifesto in ARCHITECTURE

“Architecture defines who you are.” That manifesto is simple but meaningful in sense. Maybe some of us are thinking where did that kind of design came from and no one can answer you because there is only one who can say the answer and that is the designer or the architects.

Some of the architects have the basis of their design. Might we don’t know that we are already one of their bases? That is somehow true because some of the architect now a days are focusing or getting their ideas from something that he or she is the only who knows about it and that was the experiences behind the architects that we can see now a days.

Architect are looking from their past and from there, they can see an inspirations to use from. Maybe some of the architect will have a realization after looking at their past. And some of this is that all wrong negative happenings at our past may not be just a nightmare but a basis and inspirations of what we need to do in our present or what we are right now.

Through that inspiration that no one can tell how amazing life is, a concept of design will appear. Those emotions behind the past can know be use as one tool to come up with a concept that no one can reject because of the stories behind it. And now the knowledge and skills of a professional architect can now be seen on how he or she will build behind those concepts. But not only past can be the basis, maybe there is something in the present that is most inspirational compare to the past. Like the person who give you smile and the people behind you, your friends. They can be an inspiration by just imagining of something that they are the basis, you’ll see that there is a design that will just get out of your mind and that design is something to be proud of.

A real architect is not just thinking of a design in a second. A real one is thinking so deep that no one can see where did it came from and use it as a concept.

Architecture is not just a simple thing that gives people a “WOW!” in their faces but makes them calm and gives them an interest to find who the architect of that building is because a reflection of humanity and unity just insert to their mind.

And whoever is that architect will be very proud to tell everyone one the concept behind that building. That architect just made a model of his stories presented by his or her building.

What a great explanation of mine does it? Just kidding. I said those things because I want to be that architect I am telling a while ago. It’s like that you are already a perfect one if you have all those things, Knowledge of using your stories as your concept.

That is how architecture for me, a structure and design that show who you really are. Show the world what kind of architect you are give them a building that will give them interest. You don’t know, maybe that building of yours will be a symbol at the city that you built your design. You can be the part of the city that all architect dream of, being well known as the most amazing and talented architect in the land. What a word of wisdom that each and every architect wanted to hear from their people or clients.

Does it fantastic?

A story can be a symbol of the land. We as a future architects must know already who we really are because everything will just reflect in our future career. And after we realize those things, all we need to do is to design. To design in a perfect way with a right use of ideas.

Design the empty world we have, made it perfect as we know who we really are.

Show the world that it’s perfect place to live in.

Put a colour behind those black stories.

Show them that this world is full of design and there is an architect that will show you.

As what I know, I will be an architect someday and I will show the world who am I by showing it in a design. That’s why I will pursue my studies so that these goals will be real in my two hands.

Architects dream big before they became one. And now they are already free to show what they got.

Behind my stories, I know that there is a design hiding behind it and I will wait until the right time to come for me to find out what is that design really all about. I will hold on to that design that will come at right time because I know that it’s the perfect one. I know to myself that, that design is me and I will use it to make a clone of mine by making a building at centre of the land where I started from.

After a long journey, World is empty without us because we as an architect we need to design the world to become a paradise.

Just do designing and you will never know that you are already being part of the history. No more questions ask. Just design, draw, paint, colour, and imagine that a single stone will be an art by the power of your mind and heart.

Imagine that the stone and you are one and can stand and be part of the world by being a structure that will be an inspiration to the eye of the people. Dream big and you will see how beauty was architecture is.

What is beauty for a philosopher?

In our AESTETA Class, we had a report about the famous philosophers. For the students to know what is really beauty all about and also for the class to have a background of some philosophers. Each group who was assigned in the philosopher was asked to give their background, philosophy and what is beauty for them. As the group present in the class, the student gathered some ideas and inspiration in making a concept that will show the real meaning of beauty in the field of architecture. They are groups who presented in the class and one of them is our group. We are the first group to present in the class and I am with my partner, Steven Vilbar. We presented the background, philosophy and the meaning of beauty for Aristotle and Plato. Let’s just summarize our report and go straight to point and purpose of the report.

The beauty for Plato is that everything is beautiful and no one can say that it’s not beautiful. In short all of as has an opinion on how does the object looks like. That opinion was respected that is why Plato said that everything we see on this world is beautiful. Objects are beautiful in their own way. And that is beauty for Plato while for Aristotle; beauty is something produces many good things especially if it has order and symmetry. He likes an object if its design is arranged properly, the object that has calm in the eyes that is beauty for Aristotle. It only means that the entire thing that was made by God is beautiful because God made this world with order and purpose. And that is our was the philosopher that was assigned to us with my partner. Let’s go with other philosopher assigned to the other group.

Beauty for Immanuel Kant is perfection. All the things that are perfect for you is already beautiful because it’s your own opinion. No one can say that its not perfect for you because you have your own mind that gives you ideas and vision how that real thing s was imagined.

Karl Marx was philosopher who defines beauty as a nature. I guess we have the same idea about beauty because I do not regret that I love nature and everything you see from it is beautiful. For him anything that you see and everything that was made out of is beautiful. Nature is the number material and most beautiful in this world because all was may possible. God made this world with full of inspiration and love that is why we can feel those thing and that is one of the reason why we said that its beautiful.

Saint Augustine of Hippo visualizes beauty as love. Everything behind love is beautiful. Love can give you a big impact in imagining and visualizing things because their is a feeling that you are the only who can define it.

Other things that was reported by the is the Rationalism and Empiricism. Rationalism is a source of knowledge and justification while Empiricism is a source of knowledge by senses and experiences.

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche said that ball in human are beautiful. I agree with him because we all know that no one in this world is ugly. We are all made by God and God has a reason why he made our looks like this. All person in this world is equal that’s why they are no reasons why to hide you face from the public. We should not be shy, We should be proud of what we are because we know in our self that they reason and purpose behind it.

Gilles Deleuze . For him beauties can indeterminate time, destiny and others. We can say that it’s true especially when we say “Love at first site”. You can feel that your time stops because that person gets your attention and like you’re being pulled by him/her. I can say those things because I base it from my experiences.

And last is Thomas Aquinas. He defines beauty as perceived and pleases. He is trying to say that we can only define or say that it’s beautiful if we are going to analyze it by using our senses. The point is we have to use our mind to what is really beauty for us. We are only the one who can say that it’s beautiful for us.

After a long day for this report to be completed at the end of this the class now understand what beauty really mean to this world is.

This report makes a big value for as architecture student because we will be ask by our future clients to make a structure that is beautiful for us and also for them. These philosophers can be our inspirations in defining beauty for our clients.

What I realize after all this report is that beauty is everywhere; we just can’t see it because our mind is focusing of what we want. We don’t have time to see other things that is waiting for us to look at it and say that it’s amazing and beautiful. We should be open in everything we see because this world is amazing just the way God made it. We can enjoy this world by having an equality and in that way while we are enjoying everything we see, we don’t know that everything that is happening is beauty.

Architecture is Engage in Experience

Architecture can directly engage with the inner experience of people because all of our experience has an emotion that can be seen to it and that emotion is one of the factors that we are using in designing. That emotion which we are holding on is sometime our basis in designing because in design you can’t stop remembering some experiences especially if your design shows some symbols that where you had that experience. During those times when our experiences just flashback in our mind, is the time that we don’t regret because aside from recalling those memorable situations sometimes it’s the one who can help us in our work. And that work should be proud of because it’s not only came from our ideas but also came from our heart that is full of secrets.

Those styles of designing are sometimes asked by the clients of architect because clients wanted their structure to be unique and mysterious. Unique in a way that his or her structure will only be one in this fantastic world and also mysterious in a way that all people who will see his structure will have a question in their minds, that question is where that designed of structure came from. Maybe if some architects had a chance to hear those lines could be proud of their selves because their works are being talked by many people. And those situations can help the architects to improve their design if they needed to because it would them to know where their errors are.

As the time goes by with this process, architecture at this point in time is now amazing and can now be proud of. May that improvement also affect the meaning of arts for other people because art is not just simple; to do is not just a simple task. Art is by expressing your emotion and ideas; if you can’t do it then you are not entitled as an artist.

Everything we see are all has a content of arts, either universal or spiritual. Art has a universal content because where ever you put an artwork in one place or area that artwork will still be an art because artwork is beautiful in our eyes. Beautiful in a way that we can give an opinion in each artwork that was made by an artist or an architect. Art is not just a material that is beautiful in our eyes; it may also be able to be ugly but beautiful in being unique. It’s also universal because any kind of materials that you combine can also be an art. I can say all this things because I was given a chance to know further more about the creation of God. My education can help me a lot in my every single task. That’s why I have a source in every single word that come to my mind. The things that are universal to this world is the nature because it was made by God. Anything that you combine by using the nature is best art or architectural that will ever see in this world. Architecture is also an art that combines nature to a structure. Architects give flow and rhythm to their structure. They do this entire thing so that their structure will be not out of place. Out of place in a way that people will find it boring because the architect who design it has no focus in his or her work. And that is what they keep avoiding. To remove to the mind of people that architect now a day is not slow in thinking of ideas and concepts as their basis of design.

After analyzing that art in a presence of architecture has a universal content, architecture also has a spiritual content, in a way that art has an ability of to go in the flow of emotion being expressed by the people or the viewer. As what I have said art is being done with the presence of emotion being expressed by the artist.

Art is everything whether it’s a naturally or manmade object. And where done with all the things we need to know about art in a presence of architecture. I am sure that the best architectural design that will be design by all licensed architect now a day is by expressing who day really are so that they can be known by people in a way that they have a trust in their self. Architecture is one of the artwork we people should be proud of because architect makes object to be part of history and to emphasis the purpose and meaning of it.

That’s why as a viewer we should turn around and look at the beauty of nature being done by our God and also the things being done by our artist.

"Ways of Seeing" by John Berger

We are asked by our professor to watch the “Ways of Seeing” in advance so that we can have an idea what do it really talks about. Aside from just watching it, I also read some articles about it so that I can clearly understand the stories behind it.

“Ways of seeing” is written by John Berger it was divided in four part television series in just thirty minutes. This book was contributed to the culture of feminist that has the idea on depictions of women in advertisements and oil paintings. It focuses on aesthetic properties and art history approach.

The first episode of the book is all about the painting. It talks about what painting means and also the idea behind it. Also talks about on how reproduction possible by the camera and thus it change the meaning of art. This episode has a very interesting idea that probably talks about reproduction in different way possible. The first thing is that he tried to reproduce works of arts in poster, newspaper, book, postcards and screen. And it means that art is experienced in a context way.

Before knowing all this things, I find time to view art works by the materials used on it and how it was made, and the skills that was applied on it.

I agree with John Berger’s Theory because once you reproduce a art it makes a lot of changes specially in the colour of it. Youwill see the difference of it from the original one that can give it lots of meaning and ideas.

My example is the painting of “Venus of Urbino by Titian“ the two kinds of image I got from my research is that they both give a different meanings and ideas because they are different in colour and how the wag it was reproduce. The one who reproduce this painting as an image find time to show that this kind of painting is already old and make it colour more yellowish. Two people may have different idea about these two pictures with different style because John Berger was right. When you reproduce a painting or any kind of art, it gave us more ideas on how we see it. These example that I chose change my way of seeing it just proven that if you focus on the original picture of the painting and compare it from the reproduce one, you can say that art has a lot of meaning and style.

PLEASANTVILLE

In school, we are given a chance to watch a film entitled “Pleasantville”. It was a story of a person who changes the beliefs of other people in viewing colours. They helped people to analyze what do really arts all about by showing them that behind artworks there is a joy and stories behind it. And here we are we start.

For a viewer, black represents darkness that can make you feel that you are alone or you are in a wrong path way of your life. There are no ways that you can put life in a black space because life is full of colours,colours that aremade by God. Black can also symbolizeemotional because for us dark space is the right placewe can show all or emotions. Black makes us feel alone. And white represents space that can give a big impact to man’s life. In a white space,you can do anything like putting a different colour on it that can make your space livelier. Colours can make our life more interesting and historic because playing in a different colour can give you stories that you can treasure in your life. Colours make your everyday life more joyful and also give new things about you. From a film Pleasantville, black and white colours turned into a colouredonce because as they see new thing that can probably since in a modern time there black and white colours change into a coloured once. The ideas of modern time that brought in a classic time give a big impact in their own realization of what do things really mean was howto make love in a place that they called Lover’s Lane. Lover’s Lane is place where do lovers stay and have some talk. It’s a place where you can feel that love is in the air and the place full of love and romance. This place is described as a romantic and loving place to stay in. Having some ideas in a love during classic time can make your time faster than what you just expected.Youwill just be shocked of what is happening or the effect of it into your way of living.These changes continued while David and Jennifer are inthe classic time that suppose to be in modern time. David and Jennifer are the persons who brought changes in a classic time and brought stories. While they are in a classic time and continuing in showing the life in the future with a presence of love, they give an impact to the time and beliefs of those persons who really lives in classic time. They continue these changes until the end of their stay in the classic time because they knew that they are enjoying what do they are doing and the changes that they brought. Aside from love as the source of their changes in colour, there is a book that also brought an impact to their ways of analyzing pictures and texts. The book gave an idea about the usage of colours in different ways. This book gave more colours to the surroundings. Until these changes appear, freedom to once self has improved because as the time goes by they are learning to express or show their love to other people. And these changes make their lives more joyful and happy. Behind thesebig changes is a girl who has a big confident of showing her feelings for a boy and this girl is named Jennifer. When she came to the classictime with David, she became strong and confident but in reality she is not confident to express her love for other people. Jennifer is shy of what she feels to others. Aside from arts was brought love and joy to others. Arts also gave destructions to other because they think that this kind of work is not belonging to them that are why some people who don’t want it, they keep destroying all the kinds of artworks painted in glass and walls. That’s why if you combine the two kinds of person, there will bea big misunderstanding what do really arts mean. All people have an opinion in any kinds of artwork because it’s their own understanding about it. We cannot control them and the things need to do if just to understand them because all people have a freedom to choose. By choosing what you want can make your life easier. This kind of situation can be seen until now a days, in our present time because arts is everywhere and you cannot throw them away or just forget the ideas or the history of it. May for some people they can because they are thinking that things have no role in the way of their living. But as what I am saying arts are everywhere, everything we see is arts. That’s why in our field of architecture, arts is very important because we one of the person here in the world who makes an art, a work that can be proud of. In architecture, we are studying colour theory so that we can have an idea where and how to use colours in everything we do and in everything we see. By analyzing each importance of colours can make a big impact in your way of own idea in everything you see because colours has a purpose. Architect inspires their clients presenting their designs with colour theory so that their client has a wide idea about his or her future structure. That is the connection of the film Pleasantville to our real world. Arts can be simple but has a purpose. That’s how do art changes the ideas of people, they keep on giving us a unique design and they keep trying us to understand them so that we can see an inspiration that may lead to new and brighter future. We must keep in our minds that arts has a value and not just an object.
